Book’n Success Makes First Book Vending Machine Placement at Hudson Primary Academy

Pasco School Board Member to Attend Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on March 24, 2023

Bay Harbor, FL 1/26/23 —Book’n Success, a non-profit organization, raises funds to place book vending machines in Title 1 elementary schools to improve literacy and behavior, and promote kindness and academic excellence. On March 24, 2023, Hudson Primary Academy will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony with all students and teachers in attendance, along with Pasco County Superintendent to unveil their newly purchased book vending machine, purchased with funds provided by Book’n Success.

Students at Hudson Primary Academy will be able to earn tokens in several different ways.  Students already earn PBIS (Positive Behavior Support and Intervention) tickets for displaying the schoolwide expectations of being safe, responsible, and respectful. Tickets are pulled randomly throughout the week for lunch room rewards and other classroom incentives.  Now the book vending machine will be another exciting incentive for PBIS tickets.  The school plans to pull random tickets every week to reward students.  Another way students can earn a token for the book vending machine is to be chosen as the monthly Cobra of Character for their class.  Each month teachers select a student displaying the Cambridge trait of the month (Innovative, Reflective, Engaged, Confident, and Responsible) and they are invited to a celebration with their families.  The token for the vending machine will be another incentive they will receive for displaying good character.  Students can also earn a token by going up a level on their Lexia Core 5 which is a reading program all our students use at HPA and they also have the opportunity to use the program at home.  Receiving a token will encourage students to continue to read and log on to Lexia every day!  Lastly teachers can nominate a student to receive a token if they see them do an exceptionally kind act or overcome a huge obstacle.

“I’m so excited for our students to earn a token for a free book!  Since a lot of them don’t have very many books at home this will encourage them to have positive behavior and of course read more,” said Lisa Peart, Hudson Primary Academy’s School Counselor.

“Hudson Primary Academy is our first book vending machine placement. I spoke with Ms. Lisa Peart over a year ago prior to starting my corporation. She expressed the need for the book vending machine in her Title 1 school and she inspired me to start Book’n Success. She expressed the long-lasting impact these book vending machines will have on students for years to come. I am so excited this is now a reality,” said Lauren Herzfeld Book’n Success’ Founder.

Start-up Charitable Organization, Book’n Success, Receives Grant Funding from the Leo Goodwin Foundation

Bay Harbor, FL 2/2/23 —Book’n Success, a non-profit organization, raises funds to place book vending machines in Title 1 elementary schools to improve literacy and behavior, and promote kindness and academic excellence. In January, the Board of the Leo Goodwin Foundation approved a $5,000 grant to support the implementation of a book vending machine in Broward County, Florida.

Funding from this grant will be used to help support the upcoming implementation of a machine at McNab Elementary, a Title 1 elementary school located in Pompano Beach, Florida.  As a recipient of the book vending machine, McNab Elementary will be able to reward approximately 1,000 students annually for good behavior and academic achievements.

“Not only do we recognize your extraordinary effort to get this program off the ground, but your efforts to raise the money to get it launched,” said Alan Goldberg, Trustee of the Leo Goodwin Foundation. “Our Foundation very rarely provides contributions to start-up charitable efforts. However, your program intrigues us. We are very interested in helping children and especially children that may not have the financial ability to help themselves. We are also very supportive of helping children with their education. In addition, it seems that your program has the potential to be scaled, which is exciting,” said Goldberg.

“We are grateful for this grant from the Leo Goodwin Foundation. Initially, we raised funds through personal donations. For this opportunity, I worked hard and remained persistent to pull necessary information together for the Leo Goodwin Foundation board. I’m excited to place our second book vending machine in South Florida to double our impact. I hope to continue to multiply our impact over time.”

Book’n Success Receives Approximately 1,000 Books from NSU University School

Bay Harbor, FL 2/15/23 —Book’n Success, a non-profit organization, raises funds to place book vending machines in Title 1 elementary schools to improve literacy and behavior, and promote kindness and academic excellence. In February 2023, Nova Southeastern University’s University School held a book drive and donated approximately 1,000 new and gently used books to Book’n Success.  These books will augment books purchased by schools selected to receive funding for book vending machines through Book’n Success.

Sponsored by Upper School Achieve Club, Middle School Builders Club, and Lower School Student Government & K-Kids, NSU University School held a schoolwide book drive to collect kindergarten to middle school level books to be given to Achieve Miami and Book ‘N Success.  Upper School English Teacher Mr. Evan Grosz and Upper School Achieve Club Student President Alexis Ellman spearheaded this project. Middle School, Lower School, and Preschool students then joined in to decorate collection boxes, create promotional materials, and donate books to make it a true schoolwide effort.

NSU University School’s Community Service Coordinator Kevin Dibert coordinated this joint community service event between students in the various divisions of the school. “At USchool, we believe the best way to learn is through hands-on experiential education” reflects Dibert. “Community engagement and service learning is part of who we are. We love to provide opportunities for our students to partner with nonprofit organizations such as Book’n Success to provide mutually beneficial service projects to help the community while instilling the value of lifelong service in our students.”

“We are grateful for this donation from the NSU University School. Our implementation’s reach is limited by the number of books that the media specialists are able to stock. The more books we are able to collect, the more students we are able to reward. I’m excited to stock our second book vending machine in South Florida at McNab Elementary to help improve literacy rates and help students find a passion for reading.”
